Is whole genome sequencing useful in cancer diagnosis or just a tool in personalised medicine?

There are already a few centers doing whole genome sequencing of tumors with the purpose of better diagnosis and discovering gene mutations that can be attacked by certain drugs.
These efforts are still considered research projects so it is safe to say that genome sequencing is, for now, a tool in personalised medicine.
Still, these efforts are already proving that whole genome sequencing is useful in some cases of cancer diagnosis.
