The current holder of the organisation’s official accolade for oldest person ever is a French woman called Jeanne Louise Calment, who died in 1997 aged 122 years and 164 days.
A person born today can expect to live well into the 22nd century. It’s rather difficult to anticipate the advances in genetic engineering and medicine that could extend the human lifespan beyond 120 years. But some extra 30-40 years are certainly possible.
